Well, the Inaugural celebrations are done with and last night to close out the festivities, The First Lady WOW-ed the audience when she came out in a stunning ruby red gown by her 2009 Inaugural Ball gown designer, Jason Wu. Mrs. Obama was flawless from head to toe!
I was thrilled to see that my prediction that she would opt for a jewel-tone color this time around prove to be true and was happy to see she didn't go for another one-shoulder dress. I thought she might steer away from the same designer but why would she when Wu's 2009 gown looked amazing on her...I mean, if it works, it works, right?! :o)
Meanwhile, Yours Truly was over on 14 & Constitution attending the Michigan Inaugural Ball at the National Museum of American History and had a wonderful time celebrating by dancing the night away (feet are paying for it today, lol!)
Naturally one of my favorite parts of the evening entailed a visit up to the top floor of the museum to look at Inaugural Ball fashions worn by former First Ladies. It's always so interesting to me to walk through time and see how fashion has evolved...if you haven't been, it's definitely worth a visit! I loved this first look, which dated back to I believe circa 1800s given the extremely tiny cinched waist and heavy bustling in the back of the dress. With it's plunging neckline, embellishments and fitted bodice it could easily work in today's fashion world, with a little bit of tweaking of course, but I'd love to cut the top half off and use it as a fitted jacket! :o)
Strolling down the corridor and fast forward to the 1960s and I stumbled upon this canary yellow ensemble which was worn by First Lady "Lady Bird" of President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Finally, I arrived at Michelle Obama's Inaugural Gown from 2009, designed by Jason Wu, shown in the display with her Jimmy Choo heels. Wu will become a repeat guest in the wing of this museum now that the FLOTUS has worn him for both Inaugurals...go Wu!
Oh and as for what I was wearing...I opted for a sleek and sultry navy blue David Meister evening gown with a plunging neckline, sheer cap sleeves, ruching and embellishing on the side (which you can't see in this pic, sorry!).
And as for my feet - I chose to adorn them with my sparkly silver strappy Pradas! I get TONS of use out of these heels and they're very eye-catching when they peek out from under my dress, adding that pop to my look. Oh and my hair was freshly highlighted and cut yesterday morning by my go-to hair guru Tom at Salon Daniel.
The evening ended just as any evening like this should...with me indulging in a slice of double chocolate cake with fudge icing...hmm!!!!
XOXO
