As a stylist, last week was amazing for me because I was asked to curate a collection of looks for a fashion segment - "2013 Inaugural Fashion" - on NBC Washington! So, I pulled some of my favorite looks from Saks Fifth Avenue Tysons Galleria that best represented the trends of the season like: navy blue, embellishments, bold colors, metallics, plunging necklines, peplum waistlines, lace and winter whites. Naturally, I veered towards some of my favorite designers like Badgley Mischka, Tadashi Shoji, Teri Jon, Alexander McQueen and Armani and Hugo Boss for the men.
Accent pieces for the DC gentleman: add a patriotic flare to your formal look with these navy smoking slippers with red stars - a bit over-the-top but they absolutely work!
Myself alongside (left to right) my fabulous models - Rebecca Jahangeri, Kate Melde and Lauren Avey - and NBC Washington Producer Charlitta Rodrigues.
I wanted to steer away from black - although, I'm all for a killer black blown - because anyone can throw on their favorite LBD for a formal occasion, but for something like an Inaugural Ball why not push the envelope a bit and try something different for the upcoming elegant festivities!? After all, it's a time to be glamorous and stand out. For those leary about doing this with their dress or suit, accessories can say it all sometimes. Take a look at the video of my segment with Angie Goff and you'll see what I mean...hope you enjoy! :o)

If you do opt for black, go for one that includes some of your favorite trends. This Teri Jon gown incorporates ladylike dots and sheer - two of the season's hottest trends - and the sheared layering at the bottom of the dress will add that extra umph as you twirl on the dancefloor.
I love green and this sultry Badgley Mischka dress with gold embellished shoulders and plunging neckline is on-trend and just oooh so pretty!
Bagdley Mischka Silk Chiffon Dress
Animal print is another major trend of the season and you can subtly add this to any color for a pop of fun. This would especially look gorgeous paired with the green Badgley Mischka above.
Alexander McQueen Skull-Leopard Half Clutch
This lace, off-the-shoulder gown was one of my favorites that sadly we didn't have time to show in the segment. It would look simply exquisite paired with a colorful lacey clutch or keep the clutch neutral and pair it with a pair of long, fuchsia jewel-toned earrings. It's also a homerun on a curvy figure - like Sofia Vergara would look outstanding in this dress - and wearing the hair down with loose barrel curls and add a bright coral lip is a must to complete this sultry look.
Badgley Mischka Off-The-Shoulder Lace Gown
This next clutch is a must-have because it's a neutral color making it go with just about everything!
Alexander McQueen Knuckle Box Clutch
This Badgley Mischka peplum and lace dress is a perfect choice for a more refined and regal look.
Badgley Mischka Taffeta/Lace Peplum Gown
As for me, I would go for an effortless yet glamorous look and opt to do a metallic bronze gown like this one by L'Agence paired with a pair of mile-high strappy heels.
As for what I'd love to see the First Lady wear....drum roll please....I would love to see her in a flattering color like a rich jade! I mentioned a pastel color in my NBC interview, but upon further consideration, think she would just shine in a gorgeous green against her toned arms and beautiful skin tone. This empire-waist Badgley Mischka would look simply divine on her!

With only 1 week to go until the big night, you still have time to find the perfect look! For something fun, the Park Hyatt is hosting an "Inauguration Boutique" from January 18-21 from 10am-5pm with fashions featured from Saks Fifth Avenue at Tysons Galleria.
Thank you to friend and one of the area's BEST wedding photographers Laurie Bracewell for capturing some beautiful behind the scenes images :o) OXXO
