Recently I sat down to interivew Cindy Bapst, Owner of Union of Angels, about her June trip to Vietnam, where she met face-to-face with the manufacturers behind her beautiful garments.
Cindy spent two weeks in Hoi-Am, a divine beach town in the south, meeting with tailor after tailor, presenting her sketches and working on her Spring 2012 collection. She made the long (18+ hours) journey to Vietnam as a part of a fact-finding business venture but she left inspired by the gorgeous surroundings and culture to take her next collection to a whole other level!
Cindy traveled solo to a land she'd never been to before and albeit a lonely and long plane ride, in the end it was a life-changing experience not only for Union of Angels, but also personally. Standing out as the tallest of the crowd in most every situation, Cindy was definitely out of her comfort zone in an environment with different food, people and a language, but those feelings of insecurity ultimately played an integral role in Cindy's designs for the Union of Angels Spring 2012 collection.
The colorful flowers that decorated the lively beach and the deep jade-colored waters motivated Cindy to expand beyond her love affair with white- and black-colored clothing in to color - coral, turquiose, baby pink - and now she has "a thirst for color," according to Cindy. Don't get me wrong, she's still a fan of her signature style - a crisp, fresh all-white, lightweight clothing look - but she wants to add a pop of color in her line using more luxurious fabrics, like silk and colorful cottons as smooth as a baby's bum!
Cindy also believes a dress should compliment a woman. Prints and patterns are great on fabrics for couches, but not for a woman's dresss. Cindy believes the woman should be noticed first and the dress should follow, not vice versa, and it sounds like her colorful designs for Spring 2012 will do just that! Thanks to her venture to Vietnam she's not only created an amazing new line of figure-flattering, feminine and colorful garments, but she's also become a more seasoned designer, having learned more on her journey than one could ever learn from a textbook.
I don't know about you, but I can't WAIT to see her vibrant and worldly-inspired Spring 2012 collection!
XOXO

I love her line. (First learned of her and her clothes at your Fashion For Paws event with Union of Angels.) I'm not surprised that she found inspiration from such a special trip. xoxo
